When Amanda Holden announced yesterday that she was six months pregnant, her fans were delighted — but also astonished. In the past six months the Britain’s Got Talent star has never looked more svelte. So where on earth has she been hiding her baby bump?
In fact, as body-conscious mums will know, it is possible to hide the fact you’re in the family way well into the second trimester (even if you are feeling alternately sick and wanting to eat the entire contents of the nearest cake shop!).
All it needs is a bit of help from Mother Nature, sensible eating habits and some clever planning.
Next, as Amanda has proven, it’s all in the styling. First, don’t make your waistline the focus, advises Tiffany London, founder of the Tiffany Rose maternity wear brand, who has dressed pregnant celebs such as Myleene Klass and Emma Bunton.
‘Go for high-quality fabrics like jersey that have a bit of give,’ she advises. Don’t dress like you’re pregnant, either. Avoid Princess Diana-type smocks, yoga pants and slouchy maternity jeans.
Details and accessories are key, too. Amanda has used frills, large prints and jewellery. An unusual necklace can also distract people’s attention.
Separate ways: Macaulay Culkin and Mila Kunis, pictured here in 2006, have called off their eight-year romance
Black Swan actress Mila Kunis has split from Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin.
The Golden Globe nominated star and Culkin were together for eight years before parting ways.
'The split was amicable, and they remain close friends,' a spokesperson said told New York Post's Page Six.
According to a source the pair had broken up months ago but decided to kept it quiet while the 27-year-old promoted Black Swan.
Single: Mila, seen here at the New York premiere of Black Swan in November, kept the break-up quiet while promoting the film
Mila had previously spoken about her fear of settling down with Macaulay, 30, revealing to BlackBook in December 2009 that marriage probably wasn't for her.
She said: 'Not to say that I don't believe in it, but it's just not something that's important to me.
'But I will have children. I'm too selfish to have them now, but when I do, I don't feel like I need to be married.
'I need to have a person in my life who will care for me and my children, nothing else.'
Macaulay was once Hollywood's biggest child star, commanding £4million a film by the time he starred in 1994's Richie Rich.
But his career came to a sudden halt when his parents, Kit (who was also his manager) and Patricia, began fighting over control of his personal fortune.
Prima ballerina: Mila plays Lilly in the new film, Black Swan
Last month Mila's Black Swan co-star Natalie Portman revealed she is engaged and pregnant to the film's choreographer Benjamin Millepied.
Full of the joys: The penguin dances around the compound, much to the bemusement of his friends
It's normally little children that get excited at the sight of their first snowflake.
As permanent residents of the chilly, snow-covered South Pole, you'd think for penquins it would all be a bit, well, mundane.
Not so for this little chap who clearly couldn't control his excitement as the white stuff started to fall.
Looking like the real-life star of animated film Happy Feet, the baby penguin tears up and down while his bemused friends look on.
Or maybe he's a fan of penguin-suited dance legend Fred Astaire, who often went through his paces wearing a top hat and tails.
The clip was posted on YouTube two days ago and has already attracted thousands of views.
Inspiration: Is our dancing penguin a film fan? If so he might have seen Happy Feet or one of Fred Astaire's many films
In the Happy feet film, Mumble the penguin is cast as an outsider because he has a terrible singing voice. But he soon becomes the star of the show when he discovers he has talent for something none of his friends has seen before - tap dancing.
[starttext] Generous gift: The couple said they were impressed by the hard work and dedication of Dr van Vuuren and his wife Marlice
Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated £1.2m to a wildlife sanctuary in Namibia, where they spent Christmas with their children.
Jolie gave birth to the couple's daughter Shiloh in Swakopmund in 2006 and the couple chose to return to the country to celebrate Christmas with their six children.
'We want Shiloh to grow up with an understanding of her country of birth,' Angelina said.
The family stayed at the Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary, 26 miles outside of Namibia's capital, Windhoek, while they were there.
Run by physician Dr Rudie van Vuuren and his wife Marlice, the 10,000 hectare sanctuary accommodates mostly orphaned and injured animals that cannot be released back into the wild, including lions, leopards and cheetahs and baboons
New friends: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are snapped with fellow humanitarians in Namibia
An ambassador for the UN refugee agency UNHCR, Jolie was ranked the world's most respected celebrity for her philanthropic work by the Reuters Foundation's humanitarian website AlertNet in 2008.
The family regularly spend Christmas in a foreign country. Earlier this month Angelina said: 'We're going to travel with the kids and go to a random part of the world.'
'We're going to travel and have an adventure because that's what we love to do.'

Long awaited moment! The Oprah Winfrey Network launched yesterday after being delayed twice while its cost ballooned to a reported $189 million
The ratings are not huge, but Oprah Winfrey's new round-the-clock cable network seems to be a hit with the viewers who are tuning in.
After years of planning and months of hype, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) launched yesterday across the U.S.
Buried in the middle of a holiday weekend, though airing on the numerically catchy date 1-1-11, OWN arrived free of glitz with a one-hour preview special hosted by the talk show queen.
She offered a hearty overview of the live-your-best-life fare which she will curate across the network's schedule in the days ahead and further down the line.
'I wanted to take the ideals of great television that we've established on the Oprah show and bring them to you through a variety of new shows 24/7', Winfrey said.
Every minute of this network has been hand-selected by me for you, the viewers.' Many viewers seem to like what they see.
'I watched a few of the OWN shows yesterday and was quite pleased with what I saw', GC from New Jersey wrote on the New York Times arts beat blog.
As for the professional reviewers, Matt Zoller Seitz of Salon.com said: 'We will gaze upon it with awe and affection, and marvel at the sweet magnificence of its founder.'
Oprah's introduction: The talk show queen introduces her new network
Caryn James of Indiewire.com wrote: 'Beneath the inspirational advice that often sounds like hot air... Oprah has a bedrock belief in reason, intelligence and education. That’s what makes her so valuable and OWN so promising.'
This spring, Winfrey ends her wildly successful weekday syndicated daytime TV talk show after 25 years.
But premièring Saturday night on OWN, "Behind the Scenes: The Oprah Show Final Season" is a 25-episode reality series that will give viewers an intimate look at the Oprah show as it draws to a close.
In her OWN preview special, Winfrey also touted Master Class as a series that will spotlight prominent people who include Diane Sawyer, Simon Cowell, Jay-Z and Condoleezza Rice.
Not only is Oprah the pinnacle of TV fame, she is also a formidable businesswoman, ranking last year as the highest-paid US celebrity with an income of $315m.
Sarah Ferguson stars in the six-part documentary Finding Sarah on OWN, which will follow her as she tries to bounce back from her cash-for-favours scandal
New project: Oprah looked happy and relaxed as she presented her show
But there are no guarantees that her mix of emotional empathy and homespun wisdom can sustain 24-hour, 365-day programming.
Executives at the channel say the goal is to exploit Winfrey’s popularity but it won’t be all Oprah, all the time.
‘What if I could take every hero who inspired me, every lesson that motivated me, every opportunity that was ever given to me and give it to you,’ says Oprah, who will be the OWN chairman.
There is little reason to think OWN, which is co-owned by Discovery Communications, will not succeed in the crowded cable TV field.
Her last start-up, the magazine ‘O’ sells 2.4m copies a month. In addition, she has a satellite radio company and 4.6m Twitter followers.
OWN initially will be available in more than 80 million homes.
